This week marks the changing of seasons from one way of being to another. As the Sun moves from Taurus into Gemini, we move from the body into the mind. We are invited to communicate, learn, think, explore, socialize, play, and lean into our many curiosities.
Sun in Gemini
As the center of our solar system, the Sun holds a key role in astrology. It is our life force, our vitality, our spirit. As the Sun moves through the cosmos, meeting each of the twelve signs of the zodiac, the very life force that moves within us begins to be expressed through the very essence of each sign.
Each astrological year, the Sun begins in Aries, enters Taurus, and then arrives in Gemini, our third zodiac sign. Under the influence of Taurus, we moved through and experienced life at a slow and steady pace. It was about beauty, embodiment, and being occupied with the tangible.
As the Sun shifts into Gemini on May 21 and remains there until June 21, it’s as if that very spirit within us takes on the invitations and interests of this air sign. In a way, we become the living and breathing embodiment of Gemini for the next month or so.
There is a certain playfulness that the archetype of Gemini possesses. It has a curiosity for mental exploration that can never be fully satisfied. It sees the world through the eyes of an excited child. It eagerly takes in all the information it can, so that it may then share this information in as many directions as possible through the spoken or written word. It gathers and disperses. It collects and shares. It acts as a clear vessel and allows knowledge to move freely through it.
Gemini is a mutable air sign. Just as air moves quickly, freely, and without bounds, so does Gemini. Throughout this season, the invitation will be for our minds to take us in every direction, any direction, without bounds, free to roam. We may be gifted with new interests and exciting new topics to learn and explore—books, courses, conversations, classes, writing, speaking, new experiences, or different people. Life is a playground for the mind, and Gemini wants to take full advantage of that experience.
Just as air can clear stagnant energy and bring in new life, so can Gemini. It offers the gift of clearing what may feel dormant, lifeless, stuck, or simply ready to leave, like a gush of air moving through a room. Gemini season invites us to air out our lives and to disperse new energy throughout. It brings in new life by sparking interest. And it does so through curiosity and enthusiasm for everything that can be learned.
Your Invitation
Words are a gift. They are one of the many ways we make sense of our world and our experience of it. Similarly, communication is a gift. It is one of the ways we can then share our understanding and enthusiasm about the world and form connections.
Gemini is like a glue that binds us together through words. It connects. It brings the dots together. It allows us to mentally understand our human experience, both in our minds and in our social life with one another. It pulls information and knowledge from everywhere it possibly can, sampling the vast and opportune invitations that life presents, and then it brings it all together on one plate of understanding.
Gemini is play. As you engage in this, know that play lightens. Laughter moves energy. Excitement sparks. Laughter moves energy. Joy cracks open what is stuck. Curiosity instigates change. Interest turns on the light in a once dark room. This week initiates a season of lightness, movement, clearing, play, curiosity, and spark. Like that gush of wind, Gemini invites you to let go of what feels stuck and welcome whatever may be next. Like the changing of seasons, it invites you to transmute.
Gemini is the essence of change because it is movement itself. This season reminds us that we are malleable, in constant movement, and continually changing shapes, forms, interests, identities. We are that very air—free, changeable, ungraspable, in motion, moving wherever we are guided.
Throughout this season, allow your curiosity to be your north star. Allow play to be your most healing and nurturing state of being. And lean into the beauty of words as if they were your sole nourishment.
Communicate. Share yourself. Share what excites you. Witness the excitement and insights that others have to share and let those very interactions change you. Let all that is available within the world around you change you.
